With over 30 years at Olympic International, Mike Mahannah has been instrumental in growing the company from six employees to more than 200.  As the Chief Executive Officer, Mike’s leadership and guidance of the company is focused on bringing strong technical expertise and system innovation to the marketplace.

Listening to both customers and staff to facilitate innovation in HVAC design is an inherent part of Mike’s approach. He believes by intently listening to customers and really discerning what they’re looking for in a project, the customer receives extraordinary value and success.

Mike has been instrumental in developing Olympic International’s leadership position in the HVAC industry for leading edge products in emerging areas such as sustainable building and environmental design. He believes in investing in the knowledge of staff by supporting regular internal technical training.  Mike also leads annual international tours to assess new HVAC technologies and practices in building design, with a focus on bringing the world’s leading technologies to the local marketplace.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Alberta.

DANA MERRITT, BCOM, CA

President / Chief Financial Officer

As the President of Olympic International Sales and Chief Financial Officer for Olympic International group of companies, Dana Merritt oversees all operational and corporate functions of the organization, including strategic planning, human resources, operations, financial reporting, cash management, risk management, business contracts and administrative systems.

Dana values integrity and operational excellence and brings teamwork and creativity to her role of guiding the company forward. She joined Olympic International in 2008 and brings over 25 years of experience in operational and financial management.  Previously, Dana led the finance and budget operations at the University of British Columbia and prior to that, Vancouver Community College.

Dana is a CPA and has a BCom from the University of British Columbia.

CHARLOTTE CONNOR, BGS

Business Development

Charlotte Connor has been actively involved in the HVAC equipment design and project management of several commercial, design-build and institutional public-private partnership projects including the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre, Fort Saint John Hospital as well as Simon Fraser University’s Arts and Social Science Complexes 1 and 2.

Charlotte joined Olympic International in 2004 and became Director of Operations and Marketing in 2008.  She leveraged her experience and formal training in project management to develop best practices in project management throughout the company.  Her responsibilities also include designing and implementing strategic business initiatives that create real value for our customers.

Charlotte is known for her energy and tenacity and is committed to the education and development of both employees and customers.  As the Technical Transfer Chairperson for the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (ASHRAE)  British Columbia, she promotes and garners international recognition for innovative and sustainable HVAC designed projects in British Columbia.

Charlotte has a degree in Liberal Arts and Business Studies through Simon Fraser University.

ROBERT (BOB) GLOVER, P. Eng.

With more than 34 years of HVAC industry experience, including more than 20 years in industrial, Bob Glover joined the Olympic International team in 1988 after over a decade as a mechanical consultant. His focus and experience over the last 20 years has been serving the industrial sector, primarily in mining, pulp and paper and more recently, in the oil and gas industry.

Bob approaches industrial HVAC design with enthusiasm, knowledge as well as systems and equipment expertise.  His vast global portfolio includes:

  • Ekati Mine, Canada’s first diamond mine, Northwest Territories: project work included the application of Scott Springfield heating and ventilating units for a process area and dust control applications
  • Kearl Oil Sands, Alberta: innovation in the provision of building HVAC controls mounted onto custom Scott Springfield air handlers for a severe-duty  environment
  • Picadilly Potash, New Brunswick:  project included the supply of 17 natural gas fired make-up air handling units with stainless steel construction designed for a severe-duty environment
  • Oyu Tolgoi Mine, Mongolia: project included filtration systems designed for operation during sandstorms and custom-manufactured air handling units with glycol and electric heating coils
  • Weyerhaeuser, Dryden Pulp & Paper, Ontario: air emission project for HVAC system design for the severe-duty environment of a pulp mill including specialized HVAC equipment such as custom-manufactured glycol make-up air handling units, gas phase filtration units and self-contained water-cooled air conditioning units

Bob has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering from Queens University, Kingston, Ontario.

PETER MACLELLAN, B. ENG.

With more than 25 years of experience in the implementation of commercial, institutional and high-rise residential HVAC systems, Peter MacLellan brings a high level of leadership to the Olympic International team.

Peter’s interests incorporate emerging technology, sustainability and whole-building design. With perennial interest in cutting-edge technology, Peter inspires his colleagues and associates with a new paradigm that focuses primarily on an integrated design and construction approach. His HVAC design approach often leads to breakthroughs in overall energy use and comfort and often incorporates radiant heating and cooling as well as variable refrigerant volume systems.

Peter’s experience includes a large number of prestigious projects including:

  • Several large-scale manifold lab exhaust systems with energy reclaim on projects including those at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Simon Fraser University as well as the BC Women’s and Children’s Hospital
  • Large office and high-rise residential projects using variable refrigerant volume heat recovery, including The Sage at UBC, Phase 1 of the Sapperton Re-Development, and MNP Tower
  • A key leadership role in supplying the radiant capillary mat heating and cooling systems for a number of high-profile projects including the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Athlete’s Village development
  • Several large-scale manifold lab exhaust systems with energy reclaim on projects including those at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Simon Fraser University as well as the BC Women’s and Children’s Hospital

With an extensive background in engineering sales, Steve Johnston has been involved in the design of a large number of institutional and commercial HVAC projects built in the last 25 years in British Columbia. He brings collaboration and sophistication to the design of high-performance buildings that incorporate elegant solutions.

Steve’s project portfolio demonstrates his leadership in providing cutting-edge technologies to the HVAC industry in many notable regional projects, including:

  • BC Women’s and Children’s Mental Health Facility—Jean Matheson Pavilion: Olympic International applied the first capillary radiant ceiling technology institutionally in North America
  • An integrated design approach to Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Care Centre, one of British Columbia’s largest institutional public-private partnership project: with a major focus on heat recovery and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
  • St. Regis Hotel: the first large-scale Daikin variable refrigerant volume system applied to a hotel in British Columbia
  • Application of an integrated heat pump design with a geo-exchange system on the Shangri-La Tower, one of Vancouver’s tallest buildings at 61 stories

Steve works with both engineering and contracting accounts to create unique solutions that exceed customer’s expectations. He collaborates with a strong team that provides great customer support. Steve has a Bachelor of Engineering from Lakehead University.

JULIAN HOWITT

Julian joined Olympic International in 2013 bringing extensive contracting sales experience which he developed in two leading HVAC markets (Toronto, Ontario and Dallas, Texas)

Julian’s contracting sales experience has been focused in the commercial and mixed residential hi-rise bid-spec construction market as well as in design build projects in the commercial and institutional markets.

He finds fulfillment in all aspects of the construction process and with the added hands on challenges the team faces.  Julian brings innovation and creativity with a commitment to making a difference in delivering a complete solution.

Julian is committed to the development of new employees in the organization and considers ongoing professional growth, training & development vital to reliably delivering exceptional service in an ever-changing marketplace.

Julian graduated in Engineering from McMaster University in 1999.

DONOVAN WATTS

Partner

Donovan is passionate about building relationships and providing creative solutions to HVAC systems.   With his previous experience as a mechanical contractor, he’s gained a thorough understanding of the entire mechanical design, tendering and installation process.  Donovan has a mechanical engineering degree from University of Waterloo, and holds a PEng.

Outside of work Donovan competes in endurance sports.  He has completed eight Ironmans, including two world championships. Donovan has a very personal commitment to making a positive impact in peoples’ lives. He believes in continual learning, development and growth.

 

DAN MACKAY

Dan MacKay has more than 35 years of experience in providing energy-efficient controls and complex building management systems for commercial, high-rise residential and institutional buildings. His work in the medical and life sciences field includes laboratories and critical air flow spaces.

With a holistic approach that encompasses building controls and HVAC systems design, Dan brings customers flexibility in product offerings and integrates multiple open protocols to provide cost-effective solutions for customizing the controls of smart buildings.

Dan offers a wealth of systems knowledge and a reputable commitment to making buildings work. His portfolio of impressive projects includes:

  • University of British Columbia Life Sciences facilities: design and provision of a fume-hood control system for a 500,000 square foot lab, critical air flow controls for a 30,000 square foot Containment Level 3 lab and environmental controls for a 200,000 square foot vivarium (animal care facility)
  • Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel: designed a specialized, web-enabled hotel suite controls system that included integrated control of the lighting, drapes, HVAC and temperature
  • Millennium Water (multiple buildings) development at the 2010 Olympic Athlete’s Village: design and installation of 5,000 thermostats and dew-point sensors, customized controls for hydronic panels and energy management monitoring devices for radiant heating/cooling, solar panels, parkade exhaust and  mechanical systems
